the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

Exhale.

The day finally arrived and I have a job that I think I am really going to enjoy. I've spent some time during the last two days exploring my new stomping ground, on the corner of broadway and prince street, in the big brown "Guggenheim SoHo" building. Well, let's just say, "Dorothy, we're not in Midtown anymore." It feels like a different city compared to my cement pounding days at 1290 6th Ave, but in a good way. I found a little diner that might be my new breakfast / lunchy place... but there are many places on the list to try!

Things seem great thus far - the office is a mess, for sure. The Gugg had offices all over NYC (the 5th Ave spot adjacent to the FL Wright Spiral) on Wall Street and elsewhere. Due to so some major layoffs they are cutting jobs and shrinking space. (due to said layoffs, I have a desk & computer and lots of empty spaces around me. There are boxes and files everywhere and the book shelves reach up to the 25'+ ceilings. Lots of windows and VERY cool desk chairs. The curators (Hanhardt included) are more than I ever could have wanted and eager to have more help now that the layoffs butchered up the staff. I think it's going to be a very hands-on, fast paced time. It's a smallish staff here, but all the better... there is no scuffle to get lost in. Since everyone is so busy, I have been granted my independence, get to work my hours and things seem really great... I have always been lucky enough to have a supervisor that is content to let me work at a distance. I think I am going to like it here very much - and the library (although it's a mess) I want to read every book in it... so it's a great place to be even if I have downtime. About to call it day, but I'll call it a very good day at that.
