the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

van morrison and a beautiful day.

There are some days that won't quit, in a good way. Compared to yesterday's grayness - today was such an uplifting change. Work up not tired for a change and read my Sunday Styles page on the way to work - no Midd kids in the wedding announcements this week. The coffee guy now recognizes me and I don't need to ask for my coffee black anymore.

The day at work chirped by. More fun with Jon - my new boss / friend. I am pretty sure the other interns think I am unfriendly or something because I don't really go out of my way to talk to them, but at the same time I have half a dozen conversations with Jon about anything from synthetic kiddie porn, to Intellectual Property rights and what have you... today I got a big 'ol pat on the back and Hanhardt gushed and complimented me all day because I flexed the few MoMA connections I have to get him some information on an obsecure video installation work from 1972 - he was impressed, and actually I am impressed with myself too, I couldn't have found this out without some ins, considering the office is completely shut off to the public with the move to QNS. So that made me feel good - and Hanhardt mentioned that Ted Perry was in town over the weekend and they both had good things to say about me, he said it in his usual loud and boastful way... at this point, I am sure the other interns are like - who is this random girl?

Going home tomorrow night... looking forward to a long-ish ride to catch up on my journal and then some good times with the fam, a half dozen dvds, and seeing what my dad always refers to as my "buddies" from Midd. But anyway, it's been a great day, I am still very much enjoying my Van Morrison kick, so things are good.
