the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

My last Friday in New York

I'm going to be in town until the 29th - but today is my last friday in the city and I am determined to go out with a bang. Today, the senior curator took me out for a great lunch complete with wine and champagne at a fancy little SoHo locale next door called Zoe. Such a nice lunch and the end to a really good summer. he's the most fantastic contact i've ever secured and lunch was just a beautiful way to celebrate that.

I have an appointment at Anthology Film archives on Monday, thankful this worked out. The facility is closed so it's going to be just me and the somewhat eccentric director who spoke with the MoMA interns last summer. This should be quite interesting. I was already warned by his assistant that the director is known to forget appointments - so if I go and there is no answer, go get coffee, come back, wait until he gets the door. Maria-Christina tells me that there are cats in the library and they climb on you while you are flipping through some eccentric folders of clippings and ephemera. So this will surely be interesting!

Tonight is Nathan's last night in town so I am piggy backing on his plans with his cousin to go to chinatown and maybe on to see "my big fat greek wedding." I am going to jet out of here soon and meet him at the office. Today I continued to pack my boss's office - a less than glamorous task - but I am knee deep in boxes and I am out of tape, so that seems like reason enough to be done today. Not that I really did much of anything today save for go out to a fancy lunch... but it's been a long week. i've been here every night until 8pm (sure I did FINALLY get the Watson draft and make some resumes) but I was here until 8 just the same. Today I am just generally tired and look foward to being social.

Gosh, I hope it doesn't rain tonight it's gray and forboding all day... but I am looking forward to a night out and all the fun that comes with it.
