the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

To follow up on Kristin's post, here's my personal ad:

Gin-soaked SWF enjoys the finer things in life - art, film, The New York Times, ethnic food, sarcasm, friendly debates, travel, reality TV. Prefers indoors to out. Seeks same, only male. Personal wealth exceeding my education loan debt a plus. Ivy league grads encouraged to apply.

Not too long ago I saw a personal ad in a flier in Ossining. The first line read something like: Herpes. SWM seeking SWF for long walks on the beach...

I mean if you HAVE herpes you might as well just get that information out there, but just the same, if you describe yourself and your ideal mate in 20 words, it's sad that herpes is one of them.
