the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

Behind curtain one, a new car

My parents bought me a brand spanking new car today... they are good for that, a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. Some of you might recall our previous Alero and how wonderful it was- so this is the same exact thing, but newer, with the slight luxurious addition of a cd player. I never thought I was a car person, but before I become a city person, this is a handsome (and necessary) accouretment. I am feeling wonderfully independent that I can control when I come and go - since parking is a HUGE problem on campus it'll probably get here and sit, but it's nice for thanksgiving, my gres, and going home for Christmas and back. So I guess this is one very big step toward adulthood.

My party was very good, nice mix of persons, well attended and let's assume that people went home hurt and battled. In the meantime, I just sort of chillin' and wipin' up spilt gin. Great photos - there were wall to wall people in my room, the sink room overrunneth with fancy bottled beers... all things considered, not as raucous as one might expect - but that's probably for the best and I am very satisfied with my Old and New party experience. Let's pretend that I didn't absolutely waste the last few days... I'll be in the li-beary for-evah!
