the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

Skittish Political Scientist Scares Peers in Munroe Computer Lab, Then Returns Home

I drank myself one potent cup of coffee after dinner. Since then I've wandered into the wired realm where I can't help but disregard time and just keep listening to the same cd over and over again and chomp nervously on gum. I guess I am writing my first real paper of the semester, a 5-7pager on the presidential nomination system. I think it's going well, I am to about page 6 but it needs editing and some more cohesion - it's hard to be cohesive and succucint after this much caffeine.

it's good though - this is that kind of rip-roaring paper writing intensity anxiety I (in a maschositic kind of way) like. It'll be sad when I reduced to being lazy and passive and the only thing I do with this kind of "rip-roaring intensity" is watch game show network and HBO.

Came up with an apt descriptor today - "hippy-dippy" (i.e. think my old neighbor in Starr)

I've come into some great music (thanks Rolling Stone and Jeremy) this week: here are some ideas if you too are a frustrated KaZaa user in need of some new digs: Rufus Wainwright: One Man Guy, Ryan Adams: Dear Chicago (based on the current issues of RS, my sister says he'll make a good husband for me, we tossed around other ideas this afternoon as well) a version of Van Morrison's Crazy Love by Jackson Browne and Marc Cohen (this song, I swear, is just my ideal everything). Those are the three that spring right to mind - and such gems they are. Oh and a re-discovery from my past, Bob Dylan's Not Dark Yet. If you can pin down a mood through a soundtrack, this is a great indicator of my cinematic presence right now.
