Living in a 3rd World Country
Okay, proof again that I am a creature of comfort. My internet flashed out last night for 10 minutes and I had an aneurism. They are turning the water off for six hours today to maintain the water meter for the third time this month. First of all, never give the hippies on my hall any incentive (nevermind no other choice but to)
not flush the toilet. Additionally, they only send the emails to the residents and since over 1/2 the campus does laundry downstairs: I think this is extremely inconsiderate. Not only is it uncivillized to have two laundry rooms on a campus of 2500, but it's even worse to periodically turn the water off without advance warning. So, to quote just about every editorial in this year's newspaper: "I am a Middlebury student and pay $38,000 a year - therefore I should get whatever I want, when I want it, it's my divine right to vandalize it without reprocussions, and some underpaid townie should give it to me with a smile on his face and be grateful I pay his monthly child-support payments or fund a herion addiction." It's hard to be an elitist sometimes, but sometimes it's harder not to be one.
Going to finish my paper on "City Beautiful" aesthetics incorporated into early-twentieth-century University design. it's cool actually and I've enjoyed reading about this more than anything else in a while. As for my ambitious utopian plans for post-grad, in between laying on the couch and watching gameshow network and paying daily homage to Starbucks, I might design myself my ideal house, draw a plan for a city, and what the hell, a college campus and a philosophy of education. So in other words, I may as well invest in the combo pack of "The Sims" and a big ol' sketch pad. I think when you are 22 and think you know everything about everything, you may as well script a world you'd rather live in. Just for good measure, I might change my name like Mies / Corbusier did... I'll entertain suggestions on IM if you feel like providing one. I admire entirely too many egoists. Admiration all too often leads to imitation. How I long for these days to be here! I am done with college, too bad it's not quite finished.
