the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

When all else fails... Lower your standards

New life motto, what do you think? So a pretty lousy day of running around doing errands. My mother had the day off and well, if you know my mother you have a sense of why this day dragged and why every errand was done in the least efficient manner possible. God I need a job... interview Friday, I can't handle any more of this running around BS. Another day of it tomorrow... not that I have anything else "scheduled," I just hate running pointless errands.

For some time now, I have begun to think that the best job is to be the gal who writes the description of tv programs for the digital cable service. There's an art to it, I've noticed, getting a program across in eight very telling, perfect words. This is a nice and dicey job because so many movies are just awful - for instance, I just finished watching Welcome to the Dollhouse on the Independent Film Channel... coming up next is a box office smash called Spank the Monkey. Now, without the handy description I might be foolishly sucked into watching this movie because literally, nothing else is on. But yet again, I was saved by the summary goddess: college boy becomes sexually intimate with his invalid mother. Yeah, that about sums it up and I think I'll skip that.
