the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

Giving the nod to low-brow culture...

I should probably change the description of my blog to say something like "giving the nod to low brow culture since 2002," because lately I've fallen off the academic gravy train and landed squat in front of my beautiful 27' RCA and don't plan on moving from its glossy screen until the movers and Madison come a-calling. Two reasons that my mesmorized stare can't be broken - Survivor and my beloved Idol. I know that one of my dearest readers is a day-behind on reality tv, so I'll refrain from giving away any of the secrets, but oh brother, this is a great Survivor. Week to week, I am always guessing and always surprised. It is unpredictable and the playing field gets leveled, power vacuums deflate, and advantages keep popping up in the musty Amazon air. If you aren't a Survivor person or you haven't been faithful to this season, it is too late in the game to be smitten, but, the loyal have been rewarded and the show pays dividends week in and week out.
