the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

The Opposite of a Snow Delay

The best feeling in the world is when you get up an hour early only to promptly learn that whatever you were getting up for has been delayed an hour and you don't have to get out of bed. The opposite of that feeling is when you lose your work schedule, go on a hunch, and show up an hour early looking like an idiot and getting up a whole hour early. Scurrying out with my tail between my legs, I opted to come home and head back at quarter to 11 instead of 9:45 like I thought.

Anyway... that hour quickly evaporated into a couple of emails about my impending NYC trip. I had a wonderful weekend, unexpectedly, finally tracking down some old friends for two perfect conversations and ruminations on my time off thus far. More on that later tonight... back to the grindstone.
