the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

No Clubs! No Distractions! Viva the Academic Life!

I've been flying low under the radar and getting done all of those naggy, pestery, life necessities i am accustomed to having done for me. I'll get back to this post later - but I just had an all around perfect and productive weekend which included cocktail parties, the Farmer's Market, BIG grocery shopping, movies, movies, movies, talking to a friend or two, washing everything in my clothing arsenal in a hip cyber-cafe laundromat, and not only getting all of my reading done for the forthcoming week, but also even reading ahead on some fronts. I finally slept on my new adult sheets last night and enjoyed my new bed in all of its glory. I am feeling very good about myself this Monday morning. In coming to Madison and making the big transition to grad school, I set out a goal for myself to simplify - to reduce the commitments and be here for my academics more than anything else. Up until now a few things have gotten in the way and I am fine with that, but at least yesterday's feverish rush of academic energy reminded me of my capabilities and that set of priorities.

More after class... It's speech day for my students!
