the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

Back in Half-Effect

Computer is back, sans hard drive. I've been putting the pieces back together and trying to re-install key programs and drivers. But brother, what a blow. It is so hard to be without my favorite link column and hard to function without my Mp3s. For some reason, I can't get the display back to the way it was - everything - like font and icons are much larger than they were. For example, my blogger type usually looks like 10pt font and it's closer to 12 or 13... what an annoyance. It just looks wrong and off and lousy. It's 9:30 now, I am hidden away in my office and will likely be here for a long, long time. I bought a backpack full of books, papers that need grading, and this computer that calls out for tinkering and care.

I went to see (and loved) Lost in Translation today. I'll comment on it later, now is not the time and I need to stay on topic and steer the course toward productivity.

Beautiful, crisp, and lovely fall day today... what a waste to spend it couped up.
