More is More
Whereas I may prefer the Minimalist touch in art and design, in life, I am a "more is more" kind of girl. Belatedly, my summer is finally off to a solid start. I started my day off early this morning, going in for orientation at my part-time office job with the Greater Madison tourism board. I am treading into unknown but familiar territory there, working mostly on press kits and PR for the grand opening of a new downtown arts center called the Overture Center for the Arts. I just went in today to get the lay of the land and general introductions, but I am very excited for the job. I am going to do a lot of writing and I am excited to work in a non-academic way. My co-workers are very promising and in general, I am just starved for tasks and structure. I start officially next week, but this afternoon I am going on a tour of the Center, designed by Cesar Pelli and scheduled to open this September.
My other big project of the week is chipping away on my book review of the Abbas Kiarostami book by Jonathan Rosenbaum and a female Iranian filmmaker (who's name I always have to double check the spelling of). I've been "working" (the loosest definition of the word) on this review throughout the semester, but it feels good to get words on the page, after what feels like a very long absence from any kind of non-personal writing. The deadline is in August, but if I can get it done by the end of the weekend, I'll be exceedingly pleased with myself. It means I can finally turn my attention to a very overdue review of Peter Feng's "Identities in Motion: Asian American Film and Video."
