the female gaze

Look with your eyes, not with your hands.

Such a minute fraction of this life do we live: so much is sleep, tooth-brushing, waiting for mail, for metamorphosis, for those sudden moments of incandescence: unexpected, but once one knows them, one can live life in the light of their past and the hope of their future.

A grad student muses on her life, film, friends, politics, reality televizzle, and music.

A bad day with a cherry on top

Life has been just nutso lately - papers, exams, not sleeping enough. Yesterday seemed to be the breaking point - just too much to do. But circa 6pm, things improved signficantly. I tossed back a few pitches of beer and comiserated with friends and the sky wasn't seeming so gray. Afterward, I rushed home and then headed off to see my beloved Josh Ritter and Sarah Harmer, a new favorite, play at the High Noon Saloon. I really enjoyed myself and couldn't have asked for anything else. Only now I am trying to figure out this one Ritter song that I just adored last night, trying to sort through my iTunes and see if I have it already or if I need to get it. He didn't sing my favorite song, but he was very good, and very stoned.

I taped the debates and from what I saw, Kerry did a very excellent job of giving that smug Texan a tongue-slashing.

Today seems like it'll be a good one - I am finished teaching and plan to go to the library shortly. My department is hosting a swank little affair at the University Club (this is actually the party where I met Patrick for the first time). Good phone, free wine. Then a great Ozu double feature - Dragnet Girl / Passing Fancy. Good stuff.

In general, I am just looking forward to a repreive..
